BREAKING NEWS:

November 25, 2023 By Jason Adams Leave a Comment

It appears Kari and I have finally updated our website design, and set up a brand-new store for Spiral Publishing, Ltd!

Yes, after eight years, we took the plunge and tried out an actual modern solution for our writing business. Our Shopify store officially launches Monday, November 27, 2023!

We’re (dare I say) utterly stoked about the new online digs! After years of dreading anything to do with updating my old WordPress site, I’m finally enjoying this side of the biz again. Shopify is simply delightful to work with.

The store is still a work in progress, with improvements happening daily. But we decided to not let perfect be the downfall of good, and will open our digital doors on schedule. As a welcoming gift to our readers, all ebooks in our store will be 50% off until the ball drops in Times Square this New Year!

Now, you might be wondering why you should buy books direct from the authors, instead of through some other site (looking at you, Amazon). It’s quite simple, really. When you buy direct from the writer, the writer earns a bigger slice of the retail price pie. Which means we don’t have to work as hard on promotion, sales, all that sort of stuff. Which means we have more time to grub around in the squirrel gardens of our imaginations, writing more stuff to fill our readers’ story gullets.

At the moment, we are only offering direct sales of ebooks. Direct sales of print books will happen in the near future, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, each major book (novels, novellas, collections, anthologies) on the site will have a button to take you to the print (or ebook) vendor of your choice. We offer print via Amazon, Bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble, Powell’s, and others. You can also order Large Print editions of most of our major works, if your eyes are a bit vintage, like mine.

For now, print versions of our individual short stories are only available through Amazon. Again, we hope to change that down the road.

So check out the brand-spankin’-new Spiral Publishing store, and pick up some new reading material! Remember, all the ebooks are half-price through the end of the year. And hey, if you want to give someone in your life the gift of reading for the Midwinter gift-giving holiday you celebrate, any of our titles can be gifted, and we offer electronic gift cards if you want them to make up their own minds on what to read!

See y’all in the Spiral Shop!

I’m Pulpy Again!

August 24, 2022 By Jason Adams Leave a Comment

Well, not that it’s a big shocker on the personal pulpiness. But I also have a story in the new issue of Pulphouse Magazine, along with a bunch of super-talented company!

The story “Like a Hole in the Head” is told by Harvey Millford, your friendly neighborhood sanitation engineer who recently had a very bad day. I like to think of it as a thematic representation of suburban angst and ennui, and…

Sorry, old college classes creeping in. The story is simply fun. No deeper meaning, no commentary on the problems of the modern world, no moralizing. I promise.

Click here to check out the official page, and here to learn more about Pulphouse Magazine. Check out all the issues. You won’t be disappointed, even with the ones I’m not in.

. WMG2020HolidaySpectacular

Hey, everyone!

I wanted to let you know about the upcoming Holiday Spectacular from WMG Publishing. This is a great way to read some good stories during the holidays! Subscribers get a new short story in their inbox every day from November 26, 2020 through January 1, 2021. Plus more for Valentine’s Day and Halloween next year.

Kari Kilgore and I both have stories in the winter holiday calendar. Kari also has one in the 2021 Valentine’s Day calendar, and I’ll have another in the 2021 Halloween calendar.

Rather than me blathering on, I’ll simply ask that you check out all the details on the project’s Kickstarter page. While you’re there, consider chipping in a buck or two for this fantastic endeavor. You’ll help it get out in the world, and you’ll be supporting a bunch of incredible writers.

And who knows? You might just find your next favorite author, and have a new story to re-read time and again.

Crime! Murder! Thievery! All Sorts of Fun Stuff!

August 25, 2020 By Jason Adams Leave a Comment

The squirrels have donned their Sherlock hats and have magnifying glasses at the ready for a brand new series of mystery anthologies “So Criminal, It’s Good.” Mystery, Crime, and Mayhem features stories by yours truly, Kari Kilgore, and a whole slew of incredibly wonderful writers. I’ve enjoyed every story so far, but I promise I’m not getting any…er…ideas.

Issue Number 1: Private Eyes, introduces Kari’s Appalachian tale “The Definition of Crime,” with a private detective coming home to investigate a tough missing person case.

In Issue 2 – Thieves: In “Bobby and Pete,” we meet a mild-mannered shopkeeper and the homeless man who teaches him that those who steal don’t always deserve a trip to the slammer.

Issue 3 – The Chase Begins: Two Las Vegas homicide detectives encounter “Fresh Blood and Old Music” on Fremont Street.

Kari also contributes stories to Private Eyes, Thieves, and The Chase Begins, and we both return for Issue 4: Sins of the Father, due out in November.

I hope you’ll venture over to www.MCM-Magazine.com, where you can learn more about our fabulous writer Syndicate and be the first to know about upcoming issues.

Thursday Escapes! – To Catch a Thief

June 4, 2020 By loegaire Leave a Comment

Time for another of Spiral Publishing’s Thursday Escapes!

This week is my Appalachian Gothic contemporary fantasy story To Catch a Thief, a lovely little tale about haints, possession, and the power of a good dog or three.

Happy reading, and here’s more about To Catch a Thief.

Sheriff Larry Crabtree’s quiet Appalachian community hides a dark secret.

From sickly young girls to dying cows, life drains from Larry’s town.

Granny shares wisdom in Larry’s dreams.

Larry must unlearn his common sense and rational ways.

Belief must return if Larry hopes to save innocent lives.

An excerpt from To Catch a Thief:

Sometimes an old dog’s nose is the only warning we get of the weird critters that seep through the walls of this world.

The sheriff could see a massive black form coming from the trees toward the barn. He couldn’t make out what the thing was. It was…smudged came to mind. Indistinct. But the shape was wrong, somehow. It seemed upright, but he saw no limbs or head. He blinked, doubting his eyes when he saw the thing’s shadow leading it, between its body and the light from the house.

Like the shadow was casting the figure.

Head over to Spiral Publishing for your Thursday Escape!
